These brownies are from the Necessities and Temptations (a cookbook by the Junior League of Austin, Texas) They're called "Best brownies" but I give them three stars out of five. Four if you add the frosting. They are great if you don't have a brownie mix, because they are quick and it's likely that you will have all of the ingredients. I made them for my first day at my new job - as a way of introducing myself.
1 cup butter
1/2 cup cocoa
4 eggs
2 cups sugar
1 1/2 cups flour
dash of salt
1 tsp vanilla
Preheat oven to 350˚. Melt butter and dissolve cocoa in the butter and set aside. Cream together the eggs and sugar. Beat in flour, salt and vanilla. Add cocoa and butter to flour mixture. Bake in a greased and floured 9x13 metal pan for 28-30 minutes. (recipe suggests 30-40, but mine were done before I took them out at 23 minutes)
This frosting recipe really improved the overall taste.
3 tbsp butter, softened
3 tbsp Hershey's cocoa
1 tbsp honey
1/2 tsp vanilla extract
1 cup powdered sugar
1 to 2 tablespoons milk
Beat butter, cocoa, honey and vanilla in small bowl until blended. Add powdered sugar and milk; beat to spreading consistency. About 1 cup frosting.
